Five years ago I became a subscriber to the New York Times. I was a creature of habit at the time. I suppose I still am, but this decision to subscribe to the digital edition was bittersweet. Oh how I adored flipping those inky pages. The texture on my fingertips. The expanse of a double spread wide open. The mess of scattered columns. Weekend mornings were leisurely spent with coffee and my print copy of the newspaper. If the kids were at sleepovers or preoccupied nibbling on cereal in front of a cartoon filled TV, I would read my favorite sections in bed. I confess. The digital edition is good, but not as great as the real thing. Anyone who has made love online understands this completely. There is a bright side of course. Because I'm doing it digitally, it seems that my partner (paper) knows me well. They have created 'Story Portrait' where it showcases who one is and what they desire based on the articles they gravitate towards. It is no surprise to me that the NYTimes; my beloved, gets me. "All the News That's Fit to Print".
UPDATE: I am so happy! The NYTimes shared story portrait and my words! HERE.
