Your Pirate Coat
your pirate coat
you forgot it on my bed
it floats on the waves
of my white sheets
i have slept with it for weeks
hugging the scent of your ego
remembering your touch
imagining your smoky accent
i found a photo in the pocket
it wasn’t of me
she looked similar familiar
like the luscious mermaids
we have seen
sailing together
around the world
did you love her?
does she miss you?
were her kisses tender
like ours
do you follow her
pirate code?
do you see her
on our ocean
waving in the distance?
the truth of pirate life
is rippled with
beaten wood
and a longing loyalty
perhaps you are
ready to leave
this skeleton sealed life
we designed on the
painted map
your pirate coat
you forgot it on my bed
it floats on the waves
of my white sheets
i have slept with it for weeks
wondering if you will return
to my port
to stay
